hard to say the greatest voice. you can have almost no voice and yet be a great singer. i think i had a thread on that once. jimmy durante singing "september song" will make a grown man cry. janis joplin probably would not make it in voice academy but her singing will touch your soul. as for great voices you have to mention whitney houston and barbra streisand. gladys knight's voice can soar. annie lennox has a purity of voice. and on and on. stevie, karen, carly can't be forgotten for their style and smoothness. they may not hit the high's that whitney does but they touch you nevertheless.

I don't really care for Celine Dion, but you can't deny that her voice is pretty near perfection. I tend to like the quirky singers like Norah Jones, Alanis Morisette and Sheryl Crow

Celine does have a nice voice but it grates on me after a song or two Laughing

i can't imagine anything worse than a celine dion, cirquie du soleil performance. her mostly inane songs and those little people riding bicycles on a high wire is cruel and unusual punishment.

She is so full of herself you think she would eventually explode. But, she does have a good voice, don't you think?

yes she does but it does absolutely nothing for me nor do her songs. can't explain it i don't even like the "titanic" song. as for "cirque" i suffered through that in long beach a few years ago. thought it would never end. fine for little children but all that french chatter and people acting foolish drove me up the wall. again, i am sure there are those who would love it.........just not me.

Thank you , Jim - I'm honored to be that high on the list...........

When I think of female vocals, Barbra Streisand, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Patti LuPone , Ethel Merman, Judy Garland, Kristen Chenowith,
Edina Menzel - these voices make me sit up and listen, and learn from....

Patti Labelle , Gladys Knight , Dusty Springfield........again, great voices -
even Petula Clark.........Cass Elliott was terrific, and could ing anything from the music of the Mamas and the Papas, but could croon an old ballad of yesteryear..........

Again, Jim, I'm honored ...........

Two I'd like to mention: Roberta Flack and the late Eva Cassidy.
